FG assures Nigerians of timely data to develop education sector

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians of credible, reliable, and timely data to aid the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of development interventions as well as reform initiatives in the country, especially in the education sector.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, gave the assurance while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th National Conference on Education Management Information System (EMIS) in Gombe on Wednesday.

Adamu noted that data was very key to national development, saying it remains imperative for national planning, policy.

The minister, who was represented by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said the ministry was making tremendous progress in the production and dissemination of reliable and timely data.

According to him, 2019, 2020, and 2021 data on the education sector have all been processed and were ready for National and Global dissemination.

He added that discussions at the conference with the theme, ‘Sustainability and Maintenance of On-line Data Generation Using Tablets and Android Phones’, would help to improve on the automation of data production and management processes in line with evolving global trends.

Adamu further assured of the ministry’s resolve to strengthen EMIS to build its capacity needed for quality output in line with international best practice.

Speaking at the event, the governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu  Yahaya, said his administration has substantially revamped the education sector in the state with a considerable increase in school enrollment, literacy, numeracy, and positive learning outcomes.

Yahaya, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manasah Jatau, said the state has recorded a lot of improvement in ICT development, infrastructural development, and teacher capacity building which he said will impact positively on education in the state.

He, however, urged stakeholders to do whatever they could to improve on education as a matter of priority just as he expressed the determination of the state to cooperate with all stakeholders to uplift NEMIS in the interest of the Nation and indeed Gombe state.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Andrew  Adejo, who was represented by the Director of Information and Communication Technology in the ministry, Abubakar Isa, called for strong synergy and cooperation between stakeholders in the funding of NEMIS for enhanced and optimum performance.
