The Federal Government has announced Thursday as a public holiday in commemoration of the 2025 Democracy Day celebration.

This announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

According to Ajani, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, declared the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians on 26 uninterrupted years of democratic governance.

“June 12 marks a significant chapter in our nation’s history — a journey toward building a country founded on truth, justice, peace, and a promising future,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo.

“These 26 years reflect the resilience, strength, and courage of the Nigerian people, and a hope that is now stronger than ever.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration to uphold democratic values rooted in the freely expressed will of the people as they shape the nation’s political, economic, social, and cultural development.
