FG launches digital platform to strengthen transparency in tertiary education

The Federal Government has launched the Federal Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to promote accountability, transparency, and efficiency in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

Unveiling the initiative in Abuja, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa described the platform as a “major milestone” in restoring public confidence in the management of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.

According to him, the FTIGTP provides a unified digital system offering real-time data on student enrolment, government funding, TETFund allocations, NELFund interventions, research grants, and institutional performance metrics.

“For the first time, Nigeria will have a single, integrated framework for monitoring and assessing outcomes across all tertiary institutions,” Alausa said.

He noted that the platform would replace the long-standing problem of fragmented and inconsistent data collection with a centralised, accurate, and easily accessible information system.

Dr. Alausa stressed that the FTIGTP is more than a data tool, describing it as a reform instrument to drive results-based management, improve governance, and ensure better resource allocation.

“Institutions will now be required to submit quarterly reports, with financial accountability tied to performance and eligibility for future government funding,” he added.

The minister urged vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts to fully cooperate with the initiative, noting that its success depends on institutional compliance and a shared commitment to transparency.

He emphasised that the platform would serve as a single nationwide source of verified data, helping to curb fund misuse, enhance oversight, and build public trust in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
