The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has commenced a landmark audit of the entire Kano Flight Information Region (FIR), covering Nigeria’s airspace.
The exercise, the first in the agency’s 25-year history, will include detailed inspections of Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu, and Maiduguri international airports, alongside several state-owned and private aerodromes. It will also assess Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) facilities nationwide.
According to NAMA Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, the audit is designed to enhance safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance in line with global aviation standards. He said it would also prepare the agency for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) Certification and upcoming ICAO safety assessments.
“This audit is more than a compliance check; it is a declaration of our resolve to constantly improve and guarantee that every flight in Nigeria’s airspace is managed with utmost safety and efficiency,” Umar stated.
The review will evaluate air traffic services, aeronautical information management, planning and statistics, and search-and-rescue operations, while identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
NAMA said the initiative underscores its commitment to accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
