FG meets NLC, TUC leaders over strike

The meeting between the Federal Government and the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has started at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the aim of averting the strike planned by the unions.

A scheduled meeting at the Presidential Villa on Friday, September 29, 2023, was cancelled after the leaders of the unions failed to show up.

The NLC and the TUC had, on Tuesday, declared their readiness to begin an indefinite strike on October 3 over hardship in the country following the removal of petrol subsidy.

Sunday’s meeting holding at the Chief of Staff’s Conference Room at the villa is however expected to come out with resolutions much awaited by Nigerians to stop the impending industrial action which several chapters of the unions have pledged to join on Tuesday.

The meeting has in attendance from the government side the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha.

Others are the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and Ministers Atiku Bagudu (Budget and National Planning), Wale Edun (Finance), and Doris Uzoka-Anite (Trade, Investment and Industry).
