FG opens applications for 2026 PTDF overseas scholarships

The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

The announcement was made on Monday via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

According to details published on the PTDF scholarship portal, the scheme is open to MSc and PhD candidates in oil and gas–related disciplines. Successful applicants will enjoy full sponsorship, including tuition fees, return flight tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.

PTDF stated that the programme is designed to provide beneficiaries with access to world-class training and research facilities while strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous capacity in the oil and gas sector.

For PhD candidates studying in the United Kingdom, the scholarship will operate under a split-site arrangement.

This allows research to be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and partner universities in the UK, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

The agency noted that the scholarship is highly competitive, with selection based on academic excellence, research proposals, professional membership, and the relevance of the proposed study to the oil and gas industry.

MSc applicants must possess a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) or Second Class Upper (2.1) degree, have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, be computer literate, and hold at least five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.

PhD applicants are required to submit a research proposal of up to five pages detailing objectives, methodology, and data collection methods.

PTDF also stressed that all applicants must have a verified National Identity Number (NIN).

Multiple applications or submission of falsified documents will attract automatic disqualification.

Interested candidates are to apply online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions.

Applications close on February 27.
