The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has announced the closure of 22 illegal colleges of education in the country.
The NCCE disclosed this via its achievements obtained on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
The commission said the discovery was made during a crackdown on illegal colleges of education in the country.
It stated: “The NCCE identified and shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across the country.
“The NCCE conducted personnel audit, financial monitoring in all the 21 federal colleges of education.”

President Bola Tinubu had recently urged the NCEE, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to weed out illegal tertiary institutions in the country.
Tinubu gave the directive while speaking at the 14th convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Abuja.
The president, who was represented by the Director of University Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Rakiya Ilyasu, ordered the NUC, the NBTE, and other agencies to take decisive action against what he described as “certificate millers” undermining the credibility of the education sector.
