FG to install 5,000 cameras as Tinubu moves against Plateau terror

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed service chiefs and the Minister of Defence to immediately track down those responsible for the recent killings in Plateau State and to reinforce security measures to halt recurring attacks.

The President issued the directive on Thursday during a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Jos.

He also announced that the Federal Government would deploy 5,000 security cameras across Plateau to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance, and rapid response to threats.

Tinubu visited Jos to commiserate with the people of the state following the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, where over 28 people were killed.

Condemning the killings, he said his mandate was to improve lives—not create widows and widowers.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who welcomed the President, said the tragic incident occurred at a time when Plateau had begun to enjoy relative peace and attract both local and foreign investors.

He described the attack as a setback but expressed confidence that the state would emerge stronger with federal support.

Mutfwang praised security agencies for thwarting many attacks that never make headlines and noted that the state’s Security Council had already taken significant decisions to address the crisis.

He recalled that Plateau’s security challenges span nearly 30 years and had persisted under former governors Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang, and Simon Lalong.

However, he said the Tinubu administration had fostered greater unity among Plateau leaders in tackling the problem.

Former Governor Jonah Jang, in his remarks, requested a follow-up meeting with the President in Abuja for deeper discussions on long-term solutions.

He warned against individuals attempting to disrupt forthcoming elections but expressed optimism that with the President’s backing, ongoing peace efforts would succeed.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by Senator Simon Lalong and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba.
