A fire on Monday destroyed an open recycling site and spread to nearby buildings along Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road in the Abule Egba area of Lagos.
The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the agency received a distress call at about 1:08 p.m. from No. 15 Pipeline Road.
According to her, fire crews from the Agege and Abesan stations were quickly deployed to the scene.
Preliminary findings showed that the fire began in an open space used for local recycling activities before spreading to a residential bungalow and a small church.
Adeseye said one woman suffered shock and was treated by emergency responders, adding that no deaths were recorded.
Firefighters eventually contained the blaze and stopped it from reaching other properties.
She noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and urged residents to adhere to safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.
