A fire outbreak on Tuesday morning gutted parts of a one-storey residential building at Hotoro Ring Road, Eastern Bypass, opposite Arewa Surgery, in the Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, said the fire started at about 9:20 a.m.

He explained that the Service received a distress call from one Halliru Ibrahim, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Central and Bompai fire stations.

“On arrival, our personnel found the one-storey building, measuring about 75 by 100 feet and used as a residence, already engulfed in flames,” the statement read.

The structure, which comprised two bedrooms, two parlours, three toilets, two kitchens, two stores, a staircase, a balcony, and a corridor, was extensively damaged—particularly the upper floor.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze using three jets connected to water sources from the Central and Bompai stations.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, commended his team’s swift response and urged residents to be cautious with electrical appliances and other fire-prone materials.

He also advised the public to always switch off electrical devices when not in use to avoid similar incidents.

The cause of the fire, according to the Service, remains under investigation.
