The long wait for England striker Harry Kane to win the first major trophy of his career came to an end on Sunday after Bayern Munich won their 34th Bundesliga title.
Kane could have earned his first winners’ medal on Saturday had Bayern won at RB Leipzig in the striker’s absence.
He watched on from the stands as he served a suspension for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season the week before, but a 94th-minute equaliser from Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen kept the champagne on ice.
Bayern’s title win was eventually confirmed on Sunday when second-placed Bayer Leverkusen fell to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, meaning they could no longer mathematically better Bayern’s total with two matches remaining.

Commenting via a statement on Sunday, Bayern wrote: “FC Bayern are champions of Germany once again! After Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Sunday, it means the Bavarians can no longer be caught at the top of the Bundesliga with two games to go.
“It’s the 34th time the club have been champions of Germany and just rewards for a superb Bundesliga campaign. Well done, lads!”
