Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has described the Fityanul Islam First Aid Group as an important partner in promoting peace and supporting communities during emergencies.
Sani spoke on Sunday at the national seminar and award ceremony of the organisation, where he praised its members for working with security agencies and providing humanitarian assistance during emergencies across Nigeria.
He said the group’s members often serve as first responders during disasters, road accidents and fire incidents, describing their voluntary service as a sacrifice for humanity.
The governor also commended their role in supporting Nigerian pilgrims during the annual Hajj, saying members assist pilgrims from the Hajj camp through the airport and throughout their journey to the Holy Land.
According to him, the organisation also provides assistance to elderly and physically challenged worshippers during Friday prayers.
Sani said his decision to return to Kaduna for the seminar despite being in Asaba, Delta State, for another engagement demonstrated the importance he attached to the group’s activities.
“I am here just to demonstrate to you that we have been following all the good deeds that you have been doing and to show gratitude. God will reward you abundantly for all your good deeds,” he said.
The governor, who said more than 2,000 members attended the event, pledged continued government support for the organisation’s efforts to promote peaceful coexistence.
He said restoring Kaduna’s former status as a major centre in Northern Nigeria depended largely on maintaining peace and ensuring equal treatment for residents.
“Being fair to all and sundry is what brings peace,” Sani said, stressing that his administration would continue to protect the rights of Muslims, Christians and members of different religious sects in the state.
He added that justice and fairness should apply to every individual regardless of status.
As part of his support for the organisation, Sani donated two buses to the national headquarters of the Fityanul Islam First Aid Group and another bus and two vehicles to its Kaduna chapter.
He also announced N50 million to support transportation for participants at the seminar.
Earlier, the Kaduna State Chairman of Fityanul Islam, Sheikh Rabiu Abdullahi Zaria, praised Sani for his support for the organisation and his involvement in religious activities.
Rabiu said the governor had consistently supported the group, including before he became governor, adding that members appreciated his commitment to their activities.
He explained that the seminar, facilitated by the governor, was organised to strengthen the capacity of selected members of the First Aid Group, which he said had more than one million members.
Although he stressed that Fityanul Islam was a religious organisation rather than a political association, Rabiu declared the group’s support for Sani.
He said members would continue praying for the governor and promised that they would demonstrate their appreciation for his support “at the right time.”
Rabiu also expressed confidence that Sani would complete his first term successfully and secure a second term in office.
