A devastating flash flood has struck communities in Dandi and Suru Local Government Areas of Kebbi State, collapsing two bridges, submerging farmlands, and destroying hundreds of homes.
The disaster, which occurred on Thursday, swept away a bridge in Fana town and another along the Dakingari–Kyangakwai road, leaving residents stranded. Local officials confirmed one fatality.
Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida visited the affected areas on Saturday, commiserating with victims in Fana, Aljannare, and Kampani villages across Dandi, Suru, and Argungu LGAs. He presented relief materials and financial assistance worth ₦70 million, along with rice supplies for displaced households.
The intervention included ₦50 million and 600 bags of rice for victims in Dandi LGA; ₦10 million and 250 bags for Suru LGA; and ₦10 million and 250 bags for Argungu LGA. An additional ₦10 million and 250 bags of rice were later distributed at the Kamfani IDP camp.
Senator Tafida pledged that the collapsed bridges would be rebuilt and urged residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer ground. He also prayed for divine protection against future disasters.
Community leaders and traditional rulers, including the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, commended the government’s swift response and pledged continued support for relief efforts.
