Torrential rainfall in Kaduna North Local Government Area has displaced no fewer than 545 households and damaged 171 houses, the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) confirmed on Tuesday.
KADSEMA’s Executive Secretary, Usman Mazadu, said the agency conducted a joint assessment with partners to evaluate the scale of destruction and coordinate response efforts.
The heavy downpour, which lasted from September 4 to 5, forced emergency responders to shift from assessments to urgent evacuations as floodwaters swept through homes and properties.
The response team comprised the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Christian Aid, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Red Cross, and the Kaduna State Fire and Public Safety Agency.
Kigo Road was identified as the worst-hit area, with 69 houses and 276 households affected.
A private school, Merits Kids Academic School, was also submerged.
In Rifin Guza, an overflowing river inundated several houses, while other affected communities included Shooting Range, Kabala Costain; Bashama Road, Tudun Wada; Ungwan Rimi, where a bridge linking Libreville Road was washed away; and Malali G.R.A.
Mazadu emphasized that documenting the affected households would guide government intervention and ensure relief reached displaced families.
“Our immediate focus is on providing temporary shelter, food supplies, and medical support for victims,” he said.
