The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that three residents were killed while 495 families were displaced by flood in Ajingi Local Government Area of the state.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr Saleh Jili, made this known on Monday while distributing relief materials to the victims in Ajingi town.

Jili, who identified the affected areas as Toranke, Kara Malama, Chuna, and Balare, said the incident occurred on August 3 and 4 after heavy rainfall, leaving 495 families displaced and three others dead.

He said: “On behalf of Govern Abdullahi Ganduje, we are here to condole with the victims and to distribute some materials to them.

The SEMA secretary, however, advised the residents to always clear their drainage and called on those close to rivers and ponds in the state to vacate the area.

“If the rivers and ponds over flow, please vacate your houses and contact the agency to provide a place for you to stay, pending the end of the rainy season.

“We have deployed personnel to the communities affected for the conduct of damage assessment to enable it to develop comprehensive data and assist them,” Jili said.

On his part, the vice chairman of Ajingi LGA, Sa’ad Ibrahim-Toranke, commended the state government and the agency for the kind gesture.

A beneficiary, Dayyabu Abdullahi, who lost a daughter applauded SEMA and the state governor for the visit and support.

Items distributed to the victims were rice, maize, cement, roofing sheets, nails, cooking oil, pillows, beans, and mattresses, among others.
