Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a distinguished Nigerian legal scholar and alumnus of Baptist Academy, has died at the age of 90.

The Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA) announced his death in an obituary statement signed by its Global President, Olumide Ajomale.

Kasunmu, a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953, reportedly died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026.

BAOSA described the deceased as a distinguished lawyer, scholar, mentor and trustee whose contributions to law, education and national development spanned several decades.

The association also remembered Kasunmu as a respected family patriarch and an embodiment of the values of integrity, discipline and service associated with Baptist Academy.

“In recognition of his outstanding contributions, BAOSA honoured him last year with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award as one of 170 distinguished old students of Baptist Academy at our 170th Founders Day celebration,” the statement said.

According to BAOSA, Kasunmu’s legacy was defined by wisdom, mentorship and a commitment to excellence, with his contributions expected to continue inspiring generations of lawyers, scholars and Nigerians.

The association expressed condolences to his family and said it took solace in the impact he made through his service to law, education and humanity.

It urged Baptist Academy old students across the world to support and pray for the bereaved family.

BAOSA said the family would receive visitors on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements, it added, would be announced by the family in due course.
