Four legal actions challenging the 2027 governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, have been discontinued by the plaintiffs.
Adeola’s Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the withdrawals were formally recorded in open court after the defendants and their lawyers were served notices of discontinuance.
According to Odunaro, one of the suits was withdrawn on August 24, 2026, while the remaining three were discontinued on September 7.
One of the cases, suit number FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was filed by Professor Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011.
Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police were listed as defendants in the suit.
Another case, FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was instituted by the Ogun State chairmen of the Booth Party and Young Progressive Party, as well as members and officials of the Action Democratic Party and Labour Party.
Adeola, INEC and the APC were named as defendants in that matter.
The two other cases, FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, were also discontinued.
Odunaro said some of the plaintiffs in the latest cases were party officials and members who had been involved in the earlier suits. Others included Dr Olufemi Soluade, Ogun State Chairman of the African Democratic Party; Oluwabukola Soyoye Temitope of the Labour Party; and Ogunremi Abiodu Oluwaseun.
The plaintiffs did not publicly state why they decided to withdraw the cases.
However, Adeola’s media adviser claimed that the litigants had become convinced of the merits of the senator’s candidacy and had decided to support his bid for the Ogun governorship ahead of the 2027 election.
Reacting to the development, Adeola welcomed the withdrawal of the suits, saying it would allow him to concentrate more on his political activities and efforts to deliver what he described as the dividends of democracy to Ogun residents.
The senator also said he would continue his mobilisation and campaign across the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
