FRSC confirms 12 dead, 5 injured in Kano trailer crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 12 people died and five others sustained injuries in a lone accident along the Zaria–Kano highway in Kano State.

Sector Commander, Muhammed Bature, said in a statement on Friday that the crash occurred at about 2:40 a.m. at Samawa Village in Garun Malam Local Government Area.

He explained that the accident involved a DAF CF95 trailer, registration number KMC 931 ZE, loaded with goods. The vehicle was carrying 19 people — 12 died, five were injured, and two escaped unhurt.

According to Bature, the crash happened when the trailer’s cab detached from its body due to a mechanical failure in the cab hook, causing the driver to lose control.

He said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at Nassarawa Hospital, while the injured were taken to Kura General Hospital for treatment.

The sector commander warned motorists against speeding, reckless driving, and other unsafe practices that put lives and property at risk.
