Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)
Fubara announced his defection to the APC at a stakeholders’ meeting at the government house in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The governor’s defection came four days after the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 15 others dumped the PDP for the APC.
The lawmakers had hinged their decision on the crisis in the PDP.
Before his defection, Fubara was the only governor on the platform of the PDP in the South-South region, following the recent defection of Governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) to the APC in April and June, respectively.
