DHQ, Troops

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has made public the identities of 16 personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria recommended for prosecution over allegations of grave misconduct, including an alleged attempt to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, a Special Investigative Panel recently completed its assignment and concluded that a number of the officers have serious cases to answer.

Uba explained that those implicated would be subjected to trial by Court Martial in line with military laws and existing regulations.

He added that the probe reviewed the actions and conduct of the affected officers and uncovered behaviour that fell short of the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The defence spokesman stressed that the exercise was strictly an internal disciplinary process aimed at safeguarding discipline, unity and operational efficiency within the military.
