Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is making frantic efforts to avert another setback in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as the concensus deputy governor, Murtala Garo’s planned defection becomes imminent.
Hon. Garo, the immediate past Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was said to be unhappy with his adoption as a running mate to the deputy governor, Dr Nasir Gawuna.
Sources in the Government House disclosed to The Star that other reasons for the possible dumping of the APC by Garo include mass defection of the ruling party by its members including Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, and senatorial ambition of Governor Ganduje.
The Star reliably gathered that the governor alongside Senator Barau Jibrin were at the residence of Hon. Garo on Wednesday night to pacify the former commissioner to rescind his plan to join opposition in the state.

Garo, who was not happy with his emergence as deputy governorship instead of governorship candidate, deserted functions in Kano Government House.
Although no details of the outcome, but sources close to the commissioner revealed that he met with Governor Ganduje and Senator Jibrin on Wednesday night.
Insiders said the powerful former commissioner may dump the APC for PDP, should his father in-law, Atiku Abubakar, wins the primary election.
The ruling APC suffers mass defection since the former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, dumped the ruling for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
