Bashir El-Rufai has confirmed the end of his marriage to his first wife, Halima Nwakaego Kazaure, revealing plans to marry another woman later this year.
Bashir, a son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, got married to Halima, daughter of former Jigawa senator Ibrahim Kazaure, on November 21, 2020.
Speculation about a possible split emerged after Bashir made posts on his X account during the Eid celebrations, openly expressing admiration for another woman. When questioned by users, he clarified that the woman is his fiancée.
Responding to further inquiries about his marital status, Bashir disclosed that he had already divorced his first wife. He attributed the decision to personal differences, stating, “I divorced my first wife. I have no time for Gen Z wahala,” while suggesting a preference for a different cultural dynamic in relationships.
Meanwhile, signs of strain in the marriage had earlier surfaced through Halima’s social media activity. She had shared a post referencing singer Chike during a widely discussed marital controversy involving media personality Frank Edoho and his estranged wife Sandra Edoho.
Bashir’s confirmation has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users weighing in on the development.
