The German Embassy in Nigeria has cautioned Nigerians against seeking visa information from individuals or businesses presenting themselves as authorised “visa agents.”
The embassy, in a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, said applicants should rely on information provided through its official channels rather than unverified claims.
The mission specifically denied having any partnership with visa agents, stressing that applicants do not need to pay third parties to obtain information about German visa procedures.
“We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!” the embassy said.
It also encouraged Nigerians to bring forward claims they had received from visa agents so the mission could clarify them publicly.
“Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts,” it added.
The embassy said visa-related information is available free of charge on its official website and urged prospective applicants to consult the platform when seeking guidance.
The warning comes amid concerns over misinformation surrounding visa applications, with applicants potentially exposed to unnecessary expenses or fraudulent schemes when relying on unofficial sources.
The mission therefore advised Nigerians to verify visa requirements and procedures directly through official German government channels before taking any action or making payments.
