Ghanaian lawmaker collapses while delivering speech

Ghanaian lawmaker Francis-Xavier Sosu collapsed while delivering a speech at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration on Thursday.

Sosu, who represents Madina in Ghana’s Parliament, was speaking about his personal experiences, leadership and commitment to public service when he suddenly appeared to lose consciousness on stage.

According to Citi Newsroom, the lawmaker had just said, “I respectfully submit that if you want to be a good leader, let service be your hallmark,” before pausing and collapsing.

People at the event immediately rushed to assist him, with two individuals seen helping him after he fell, according to footage of the incident published by CitiTV and reported by ModernGhana.

Sosu briefly appeared to regain consciousness and seemed prepared to continue his address but subsequently began to slump again.

He was then assisted from the stage and taken away for medical attention.

The circumstances surrounding the incident and the lawmaker’s current condition were not immediately known as of Thursday.

Sosu is a member of Ghana’s Parliament representing the Madina constituency.
