Globacom has rewarded winning Onitsha age grades with cash prizes, trophies and bags of rice as it concluded its sponsorship of the 2026 Ofala Festival with a royal banquet in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.
The banquet, held on Wednesday, brought together the monarch, cabinet chiefs, Glo trade partners and high-net-worth customers to mark the finale of the cultural celebration.
Speaking at the event, Globacom’s Divisional Head, South East, Mike Ehumadu, highlighted the role of partnerships between businesses and traditional institutions in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.
Ehumadu congratulated Igwe Achebe, the festival’s organising committee and the people of Onitsha on the successful celebration, reaffirming the telecommunications company’s commitment to initiatives that promote Nigeria’s diverse cultures.
The company recognised winning age grades for their competitive spirit, discipline and contributions to the festival, presenting them with cash prizes and trophies. It also distributed hundreds of bags of special Basmati rice to members of the various age-grade associations.
The evening featured musical performances by Aniweta Mazeli, Boy o Boy and the Groove Band, while comedian MC Ezegetive entertained guests.
Globacom said its continued sponsorship of the Ofala Festival was aimed at supporting the preservation of Onitsha’s traditions and promoting cultural celebrations with wider social and economic benefits.
