Glo urges girls to break barriers, pursue tech dreams

Telecommunications company Globacom has urged young girls in Nigeria to be bold in their ambitions, assuring them of the company’s ongoing support at all times.

The company’s Vertical Head of Financial Institutions and High Networth Individuals (HNIs), Adeboye Adeniji, made the call while speaking at the 13th Girls in ICT Day observance in Lagos.

Adeniji, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment to empowering young people to pursue careers in ICT, enjoined secondary school students at the event organised by E-Business Life Communications Limited to see themselves as future tech innovators and leaders.

Adeniji stressed that girls’ dreams in technology are attainable with the right tools and confidence, urging them to dismiss the notion that tech is solely for boys.

She advised the girls to remain curious and persistent learners, highlighting that they are shaping Nigeria’s technological future.

She stated: “At Globacom, we know that when girls have the tools, the training, and the confidence, there is no limit to what you can achieve.

“Whether you dream of becoming a software engineer, a robotics expert, a cybersecurity analyst, or even the next big tech CEO – it’s all possible.”

The event organiser, Ufuoma Emuophedaro, who is also the CEO of E-Business Life Communication Limited, stressed the immense potential of ICT and the importance of empowering girls in the field by breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes.

She said her efforts are geared towards challenging the narratives, breaking down the barriers, defying stereotypes, and paving the way for a “future where every girl, regardless of background or circumstance, feels empowered to pursue her passion for technology.”
