Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned local government chairmen against diverting subsidized fertilizers meant for farmers across the state.
The warning was issued during the official flag-off of the 2025 wet season fertilizer distribution held at Al Yuma Company in Madobi Local Government Area. The event marked the beginning of the state-wide distribution of fertilizers to farmers in all 44 local government areas.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, the fertilizers were procured at subsidized rates through a joint effort between the state and local governments to enhance food production and support farmers.
Governor Yusuf stressed that any attempt to divert the fertilizers would be met with strict legal consequences.
“I strongly urge members of the local distribution committees to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in carrying out this important responsibility,” he stated, making it clear that the fertilizers are meant solely to boost agricultural productivity—not for personal gain.
He also encouraged farmers to report any incidents of diversion or malpractice to the appropriate authorities.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to agricultural development, the Governor assured that essential farming inputs, including fertilizers, would continue to be provided to improve food security and farmer livelihoods.
Governor Yusuf further noted that beyond input support, the government is working to ensure farmers gain improved access to markets for their produce.
