Governor Eno names daughter Akwa Ibom First Lady

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady of the state.

This followed the death of the governor’s wife, Patience Eno, who died on September 26, 2024.

Speaking during a condolence visit by President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and other dignitaries in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Friday, October 4, Eno said his daughter would take on the duties of the First Lady, ensuring continuity of the office and the projects initiated by his late wife, particularly the “Golden Initiative For All”.

The governor also expressed confidence in his daughter’s ability to uphold the values and vision of his late wife, affirming his commitment to sustaining the projects initiated through the First Lady’s office.

Governor Eno stated: “To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office.

“She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare.”

On her part, Oluremi commended Eno for appointing his daughter as the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State.

Nigeria’s First Lady expressed confidence in Obareki’s ability to excel and described it as a thoughtful way to preserve the late Patience’s legacy.

She said: “Your mother didn’t bring you to me for nothing, and it’s a blessing that her colleagues and the vice president’s wife are here to support you.

“I know you well, and I believe God will guide you. You will accomplish even more than your mother, and He will grant you good health.”

Governor Eno had earlier on Friday described his late wife as his prayer partner and cheer-leader, adding that he would miss her for “a lifetime”.
