Governor Sule: I’ll appeal judgement sacking me

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, says he would appeal the judgement of the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal that annulled his declaration as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state.

Sule said this while reacting to the spilt judgement of the tribunal in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Monday, October 2, 2023.

The governor stated that the judgement was a temporary setback he would learn from in order to restrategise and come out stronger.

“I still remain the governor till Supreme Court decides otherwise because the law allows me to appeal and we will do that to reclaim our mandate,” he said.

Governor Sule called on his supporters to remain calm and not take laws into their hands by engaging in street protests.

He warned the youths and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against responding to the opposition, especially on social media.

The tribunal in a split judgement annulled the election of Sule and declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the owner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State.

The majority judgement was read by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ezekiel Ajayi.

Justice Chiemelie Onaga, a member of the panel, agreed with the lead judgement read by the panel chairman, while the only dissenting judgement was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Mashi, who dismissed the petition filed by Ombugadu and upheld the declaration of Sule by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
