Gunmen abduct 19 worshippers, injure 2 in Katsina

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have abducted no fewer than 19 worshippers at a mosque in Maigamji, Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State.

It was gathered that the worshippers were abducted at about 7 p.m. while observing the Muslims’ evening prayers on Saturday.

It was further learned that the gunmen shot and wounded two worshippers before abducting others.

Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah, said six out of the 19 abducted victims have been rescued.

Isah stated that the victims rescued on Sunday were currently responding to treatment in a hospital in the state.

“The terrorists also abducted some worshippers on Saturday night, but a combined team of the police and the vigilante rescued two of the victims earlier that night.

“The security operatives also rescued four other victims, making a total of six victims who have been rescued so far.

“Presently, thirteen victims are still in the custody of the terrorists and our operatives are making efforts to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” the police spokesperson said.
