Gunmen have attacked a vigilante’s office at Umunze in Orumba-South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The attack led to the killing of vigilante operative and the setting ablaze of five operation vehicles and part of the office.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident via a statement on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Ikenga disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
Ikenga stated that one of the security operatives in an attempt to resist the gunmen during a gun duel was injured.

He said: “The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday as the suspected armed men attacked the vigilante’s office at Umunze and set five of their operation vehicles ablaze.
“The security operatives in an attempt to ward off the gunmen during the gun duel recorded a fatal injury to one of the security operatives.
“Some parts of the security office also got burnt by the hoodlums.”
He said the police-led Joint Security Force had taken over the scene to ensure normalcy in the area.
The police spokesman also called for the collaboration of the local communities in the ongoing operations to ensure that those responsible for the attack were held accountable.
