Gunmen kidnap mother of Jigawa APC senatorial candidate

Hajiya Jaja, mother of a senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Jigawa Central senatorial district, Hon. Tijjani Gaya, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Jaja, a septuagenarian, was said to have been abducted from her house in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Tuesday.

A source in Kiyawa town told The Star that the kidnappers numbering about 10 stormed the community in three vehicles and forcefully gain entry into the house of the victim and took her to an unknown destination.

The abduction was confirmed by the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shisu.

Shisu disclosed that the kidnappers stormed the family house of the APC senatorial candidate in Kiyawa town and forcefully whisked away the aged woman.

He said the police have mobilised a special police team for the rescue of the victim.

He added that the police were collaborating with other security agencies and the general public in the rescue efforts.

This is coming barely three weeks after the mother of the Kano Central senatorial candidate on the platform of the APC, A.A. Zaura, was kidnapped in the neighbouring Kano State and rescued days later by the police in Jigawa State.

Kano and Jigawa States are considered safe due to the absence of armed banditry bedevilling other North-Western states.
