Gunmen kidnap over 20 medical students in Benue

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted more than 20 medical and dental students in the Otukpo area of Benue State.

It was gathered that the students from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State and the University of Jos (UniJos) in Plateau State were kidnapped alongside a house officer on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

The victims were said to be travelling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu when the gunmen ambushed them at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Bandits kill over 30 in Benue

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the abduction.

Anene said an investigation into the incident was ongoing, saying: “The report of the kidnapping is true. It was received between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. And an investigation is ongoing.”
