Gunmen kidnap police officer in Kwara

Gunmen have abducted an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abdulmumini Yusuf, serving at the Area Command in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Yusuf was said to have been kidnapped by the gunmen on Tuesday night when he was about to enter his house in the Ogidi area of Ilorin, the state capital.

His abduction was confirmed by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, on Thursday, saying: “Yes, it’s true, but we are still on it.”

Also speaking on the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the command was working to rescue the abducted ASP.

Ayayi added that the motive of the abduction was still sketchy.

“The incident, as serious as it is, has not diminished the resolve of the command to protect lives and property of the citizens,” the police spokesperson said.
