Gunmen kidnap Rivers monarch’s orderly, driver

Gunmen have abducted a police orderly and a driver of Cornwell Ihunwo, the traditional ruler of Rumu-Elechi community in Nkpolu-Oroworuko, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that the victims were abducted in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt at about 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, a vigilante leader in the area, Godstime Ihunwo, said: “I received a call about the abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, I rushed down to his house at Eagle Island where I met him.

“Chief told me it was his driver and police orderly who were abducted.”

Ihunwo, who is the Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, called on the police to investigate the incident and rescue the abducted victims.

The incident was also confirmed by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko.

Iringe-Koko said investigations into the incident have commenced.

She stated: “The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan, has ordered the swift arrest of the perpetrators to face the full wrath of the law.

“The Octopus Strike Force unit has already commenced a full-scale investigation to ensure the victims regain their freedom unhurt,” she stated.

Iringe-Koko said that Disu had visited the scene of the abduction for an on-the-spot assessment.

The traditional ruler is the younger brother of Victor Ihunwo, a former Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State.
