Gunmen kidnap UNICAL director

Gunmen have abducted the Director of Servicom at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Patrick Egaga, in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

It was gathered that Egaga was abducted by the gunmen at the university staff quarters in Calabar on Sunday night.

Egaga, who is a professor at the Department of Special Education in UNICAL, was said to have been abducted from his residence at the university staff quarters.

The gunmen were said to have whisked the professor away through the river close to the university’s staff quarters.

It was further gathered that the kidnappers also came in through the river that connects Calabar to Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Confirming the incident on Monday, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said efforts were ongoing to secure the professor’s release.

Ugbo stated that though Egaga’s family didn’t report the incident, the police have been working to secure his release.

Also speaking, UNICAL spokesperson, Effiong Eyo, said the university management learnt of the abduction on Monday morning.
