Gunmen kill 6, abducts village head in Kano

Unknown gunmen have killed at least six people and abducted a village head in Karfi village of Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.

Eye witnesses told The Star that the attackers have kidnapped the village head, Abdullahi Ilo, and were running out of the village when local vigilante group chased to rescue the village head.

The gunmen resisted the vigilante group and overwhelmed them with superior firearm killing six at the spot while others sustained injuries.

Takai local government is about 80 kilometres southward of Kano that shares borderline with neighbouring Jigawa State.

According to the villagers, the gunmen who were on motorcycles were suspected to have stormed the village from Ringim forest that extended through Bauchi from Jigawa State.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the police in Kano, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa said a team of police officers was dispatched to the area to rescue the abducted village head and apprehend the suspects.
