Gunmen kill Miyetti Allah chairman in Kwara

Gunmen have killed the Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Idris Abubakar.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

It was gathered that Abubakar, 32, was shot dead by gunmen at about 10 p.m. on Saturday in front of his home at Oke Ose in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Ejire-Adeyemi said police detectives swiftly responded and recovered five expended 7.62mm shells from the scene.

Ejire-Adeyemi added that the Miyetti Allah chairman’s remains have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary.

She noted that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched an investigation into the incident.

She quoted the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, as assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Olaiya urged the public to remain calm and provide any useful information to aid the investigation.
