Gunmen have killed five people, including Police Inspector Adejumo Wasiu, in Babanla, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident via a statement on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

Ejire-Adeyemi said scores of gunmen riding motorcycles invaded Babanla on Friday, August 8, attacking the Divisional Police Headquarters and raiding the market.

She said the assailants fired sporadically, killing five people, including Inspector Wasiu.

The police spokesperson stated that a swift joint response by the police, Nigerian Army personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters repelled the attack and began a full-scale manhunt.
