Three members of a community vigilante group were killed when gunmen attacked a local security post in Gwa Rim, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack reportedly occurred around 2am on Wednesday, when the assailants opened fire on the vigilantes stationed at the post.
A resident of Riyom, Damba Dang, who confirmed the incident, said the attackers struck while residents were asleep, leaving three community guards dead.
Dang described the killings as a fresh source of concern for residents, particularly as communities in the area continue to face security threats.
He said the victims had been helping to protect residents and monitor the community when they came under attack.
The resident called on security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom.
He also urged authorities to investigate the attack, identify those responsible and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
