H1 2026: GTCO posts N603bn profit, declares N1 interim dividend

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) has recorded N603.03 billion Profit Before Tax (PBT) for the half year ended June 30, 2026.

GTCO also declared an interim dividend of N1 per share for the period under review.

The company disclosed this in its audited consolidated and separate financial statements released to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and London Stock Exchange (LSE) on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The profit represented a marginal 0.4 per cent increase from the N600.6 billion recorded in the first half of 2025.

The company said the performance was driven by growth in interest and trading income, which increased by 7.5 per cent and 24.7 per cent, respectively.

It, however, said a N46.2 billion fair value loss recognised during the first half moderated growth in earnings.

GTCO said its total assets rose to N18.6 trillion, while shareholders’ funds stood at N3.3 trillion at the end of June.

GTCO’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 34.9 per cent, compared with 29.2 per cent for its banking business.

The company also reported improved asset quality, with IFRS 9 Stage 3 loans standing at 3.5 per cent at bank level and 4.6 per cent at group level.

The cost of risk also improved to 0.6 per cent, from 2.2 per cent recorded in the corresponding period.

The company’s net loan book grew marginally by 0.5 per cent to N3.15 trillion, from N3.13 trillion at the end of December 2025.

Deposits, however, recorded stronger growth, rising by 10.3 per cent to N14.19 trillion, from N12.87 trillion during the same period.

GTCO also reported a pre-tax return on equity of 35.9 per cent, pre-tax return on assets of 6.6 per cent and a cost-to-income ratio of 31.5 per cent.

Speaking on the results, GTCO Group Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje, said the results reflected the strength of the group’s business.

Agbaje said: “Our half-year results speak to the strength of what we have built: a resilient franchise, a strong balance sheet and a business that no longer depends on banking alone.

“Fair value movements weighed on reported earnings, but the core business held firm. Interest and trading income grew, deposits strengthened, and asset quality improved at Group level.”

He noted that the company’s priority was to execute with discipline, grow responsibly and use digital technology to scale its businesses.

“Digital is our lever for scaling across Banking, Payments, Pension and Funds Management, and for building a more diversified and resilient financial services group,” the GTCO boss added.
