Health worker recounts horrific abduction in Akure

One of the three health workers abducted from the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, Ondo State, has shared the harrowing details of their overnight ordeal in the hands of armed kidnappers.

The victim, Omolabake Kayode, narrated that the attackers stormed the government-owned facility around 2am on Saturday, arriving in a bus and forcefully seizing her and two colleagues while other staff fled for safety.

“They came in a bus, barged into the centre, and grabbed us. Some of my colleagues ran and hid inside the toilets, but the attackers dragged them out, beat them, and collected their phones,” she told our correspondent in Akure.

Kayode explained that the kidnappers took them to a bush along the Akure–Ondo Expressway, where they were stripped naked and compelled to surrender access to their bank accounts.

“They told us to lie down and demanded our bank codes and app details. They transferred everything from our accounts, collected our phones, stripped us naked, and warned us not to raise our heads or they would kill us. After a while, they drove off and abandoned us,” she recounted.

Left terrified and exposed, Kayode said she managed to retrieve her shirt and, together with her colleagues, walked through the bush until they reached the correctional service facility in Olokuta.

Officers at the facility immediately alerted the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, leading to their rescue.

“We were scared, but we had to keep moving. The officers contacted Amotekun, and that’s how we were rescued,” she said.

Confirming the incident, the Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said the three health workers were rescued at about 4:30am and are currently receiving medical attention at the Amotekun health centre.

Adeleye added that operatives also rescued a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son abducted at Pelebe community along Oda Road, Akure, on Friday evening following a confrontation with the kidnappers.
