Political analyst Hassan Ibrahim has warned former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to stop interfering in security matters, saying his actions could worsen the insecurity in the state.
Ibrahim said Ganduje’s recent comments — including plans to form a private security outfit allegedly based on claims that the current administration sacked 12,000 Hisbah personnel — risk heightening political tensions.
He noted that such a parallel structure could clash with the state-owned Hisbah and distract authorities from tackling banditry.
He added that Ganduje’s political strategy may be aimed at weakening the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration by exploiting rising insecurity.
Ibrahim also accused Ganduje of contributing to Kano’s instability through the rise of political thuggery and the lingering emirship crisis during his tenure.
The analyst urged Governor Yusuf to prioritize security, strengthen cooperation with police, DSS, and military, and avoid political distractions.
“Before politics, there must be Kano,” he said.
His remarks follow the Kano State Executive Council’s call for the arrest of Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin over allegations of inciting bandits—claims Ganduje has dismissed as baseless and politically motivated.
The controversy comes days after Ganduje launched registration for an independent Hisbah outfit under his foundation, which organizers say is a voluntary religious and humanitarian group for over 12,000 reportedly disengaged Hisbah personnel.
