The Federal Government has commenced N50,000 relief payments to vulnerable Nigerians under its National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), with beneficiaries able to check their eligibility through designated financial service providers.
The programme is aimed at providing financial support to poor and vulnerable households struggling with rising food prices and the cost of essential goods.
According to the programme’s guidelines, beneficiaries are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register.
To check their eligibility, Nigerians can use the USSD codes or official applications of participating financial service providers.

Selected beneficiaries are expected to receive SMS notifications from their providers and may be required to consent to receiving the funds.
The government said payments would be made directly into beneficiaries’ mobile wallets, which can be used for withdrawals through banks and POS agents or for direct transactions.
However, the programme does not allow individuals to independently apply or pay to be added to the beneficiary list.
Nigerians have also been warned against fraudsters demanding fees or requesting sensitive banking information, including PINs, One-Time Passwords and Bank Verification Numbers.
The government said no payment is required to access the relief funds.
