How VeryDarkMan’s viral video sparked outrage in Plateau

Popular Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, known widely as VeryDarkMan, has come under intense criticism after a viral video surfaced allegedly showing him urging youths in Plateau State to “restrategise” and take up arms against anyone perceived as a stranger in their communities.

In the widely circulated clip, the controversial commentator made remarks many have described as inciting violence at a time when tensions remain high in parts of the state.

“Anybody you see that is not from here, anybody that looks suspicious—before they get you down, get them down,” he declared.

He also accused the government of failing to protect residents, saying:
“If you keep quiet and wait for the government, it won’t be the first time or the second time. When does this stop? You promise us security, but nobody is secure.”

The influencer went further, insisting that communities should abandon what he called “passive reactions” and take matters into their own hands.

“No be only Boko Haram sabi kill, no be only bandit sabi kill. All of us fit kill… you fit kill person. You can kill people,” he said in the video.

Addressing residents of Rukuba, he added:
“Enough is enough. Anybody wey you see wey cross your path—kill am.”

Hours after the video went viral, violent attacks erupted in parts of northern Plateau, with reports indicating that some youths in Rukuba launched retaliatory assaults, targeting especially Muslim communities.

Concerned residents have since called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute anyone responsible for spreading inflammatory statements that may have contributed to the escalation of violence in the state.
