Nollywood comedian Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has revealed that a stray bullet injury left him fearing he might never return to entertainment and that fans could forget him after months away from work.
Shaggi disclosed this in a YouTube video uploaded on Wednesday night, recounting how he was shot while working on a brand activation assignment and the uncertainty he faced during his recovery.
The incident occurred in March 2026 while the comedian was filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge.
He said he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital but remembered praying while he was being taken for medical attention.
“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
Describing the ordeal, Shaggi said he was bleeding, sweating and desperately hoping medical personnel would assure him he would survive.
The injury also raised fears about his ability to continue his career, particularly because dancing, singing and playing musical instruments were integral to his performances.
Shaggi said he had maintained a hectic work schedule since 2018, moving between writing, filming, music production and travelling for engagements.
Being unable to work for months, he said, left him worried that audiences might lose interest in him.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they doing again,” he said.
Despite his condition, the comedian said he tried to remain productive during his hospitalisation by writing and starting a YouTube series.
He underwent surgery in Nigeria but was advised to undergo further treatment and physiotherapy. After about four months, he travelled to Dubai for additional treatment.
According to Shaggi, his recovery improved after surgery in Dubai. He said he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.
Reflecting on the incident, he expressed gratitude that the bullet struck his hip rather than a more vital part of his body.
“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.
The comedian said he could now stand without crutches but still relied on them for support while recovering.
“I’m still using my crutches for now. But there was a period where I couldn’t move without the two crutches. I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support with the crutches,” he said.
The Ogun State Police Command had earlier said it could not confirm whether the shooting occurred within the state, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continued.
Shaggi described his survival as a second chance and assured fans that he was preparing new projects.
“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.
