“I have gone back to our family” — Fubara backs Chinda, declares support for Wike-backed coalition

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has endorsed the Rainbow Coalition backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and declared support for the governorship ambition of Kingsley Chinda.

Fubara made the declaration on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Rivers Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt, where he said peace had returned to the state following a political reconciliation.

According to the governor, he has fully aligned with the coalition and urged his supporters to back Chinda and all candidates contesting on its platform.

“We have made peace in the state, and we have a total agreement,” Fubara said.

“I am supporting our Rainbow Party, our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president, and he is the one we are supporting.

“Kingsley Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me should support him and every candidate under the Rainbow.”

Fubara also told his supporters that he had returned to his political family, urging them to join the coalition rather than expect political rewards from him.

“I have gone back to our family. So please, wherever you are, give your total support to that coalition,” he added.

Chinda, a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, emerged as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate after winning the party’s primary election in May.

Fubara had initially entered the APC governorship race alongside Chinda but later withdrew, saying his decision was made in the interest of peace and unity in Rivers State.

The endorsement comes months after Fubara and Wike resolved a prolonged political crisis that had divided the state’s political leadership and sparked moves by lawmakers loyal to the FCT minister to impeach the governor before both camps reached a truce.
