After NDLEA’s raid, Pretty Mike spends N100m renovating club

Controversial Lagos socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Mike Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, has revealed that he invested over N100 million in refurbishing his nightclub, Proxy Lagos, following its closure after a raid by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Speaking to journalists, Pretty Mike said the extensive renovation was aimed at repositioning the club and enhancing customer experience after months of inactivity.

He noted that the facility remained shut for about nine months, a period he described as both financially and emotionally draining for him and his staff.

“I spent over N100 million renovating the club. After everything that happened, I felt there was a need to rebuild and create something even better for people who support my business,” he said.

Despite the setback, the nightlife entrepreneur explained that he was able to remain financially stable through diversified income sources and support from family and associates.

He emphasised that his personal brand continues to generate revenue.

“The brand, Pretty Mike, is always making money. That is what has kept me afloat regardless,” he added.

Beyond the nightlife industry, he disclosed involvement in construction and real estate, where he builds and sells properties.

He also credited his reputation for reliability as a factor attracting investors to his ventures.

Pretty Mike acknowledged that controversy has become part of his public image, though he insists it is not something he intentionally pursues.

“My brand is already controversial. It doesn’t necessarily mean I like it, but I’ve realised it comes with the territory,” he said.

Interestingly, he described himself as naturally private, despite his high-profile presence in the nightlife scene.

“I actually dislike parties and loud music. I prefer staying indoors, but because it’s my business, I have to show up,” he noted.

On his personal life, he expressed a desire to get married in the future, describing it as a meaningful life goal. However, he admitted that the rising rate of failed marriages has made many people more cautious.

He added that, for him, qualities such as character, attitude, and personality are far more important than physical appearance when choosing a life partner.
