‘I won’t die anytime soon’: Chiwetalu Agu debunks death rumour

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has debunked online rumours of his death, saying he is alive and well.

The speculation began after a Facebook user, Mzansi Celebrities, posted that Agu had died from “complications from diabetes and spine surgery”.

“Veteran Nollywood Legend Chiwetala Agu Passes Away at 66! Shocking Battle with Diabetes & Spine Surgery Ends in Tragedy!” the post partly read.

Agu, however, addressed the report in a video shared on his Instagram page on Friday, September 12, 2025.

“Fans And Family, Please Disregard Any Rumors About My Death, And Kindly Report The Page Of The Blogger Who Started Spreading Them. I Am Very Much Alive By God’s Grace,” he wrote.

Speaking in the video, the veteran actor rejected the claim and criticised the blog that circulated the false story as chasing “likes, views and comments.”

He said he would have taken legal action if the false announcement had come from a major outlet, but declined to dignify what he described as a click-driven rumour.

“Now let me shock you: I, Chief Chiwetalu Agu of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, am not going to die anytime soon,” Agu said.

He also vowed he would “be the one to bury my enemies,” warning those who spread lies about him.

The actor added that he still hopes to live long enough to carry his grandchildren, saying: “I must carry them in good health when my children are ready.”
