Ibadan chief Lekan Alabi dies at 76

Veteran journalist and former Oyo State government spokesperson, Chief Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76.

Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, died on Saturday morning in Lagos.

His death was announced in a statement by Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

According to the statement, the former press secretary to past Oyo State governors passed away on Saturday after a distinguished career in journalism and public service.

“The veteran journalist and multiple press secretary to former Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, is dead. The Abese Olubadan passed away this morning in Lagos at the age of 76,” the statement read.

It added that Alabi would be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.

Alabi was widely respected in journalism, public communication and traditional leadership, having served as press secretary to several Oyo State governors before becoming a prominent member of the Olubadan traditional institution.
